Wonder Workshop: Free Sample Week
Explore one complete “All About Me” week. Parent view opens first; switch to Student view to try the child-facing activities. Sample checkmarks stay only in this browser and are not sent to New Frontiers.
Day 1
Launch the Question
Introduce the weekly question: “Who am I, and what makes me unique?” Record the child’s exact words on a Wonder Chart.
Materials and teaching note
Materials: Mirror, crayons, name card, paper, sticky notes, and a portfolio folder.
Keep the launch gentle and conversational. Curiosity and oral language are meaningful evidence of learning.
Day 2
Investigate and Observe
Invite respectful observation of eye color, hair, hands, smile, voice, favorite things, and abilities. Ask for evidence: “What did you notice?”
Materials and teaching note
Materials: Mirror, favorite-things objects or picture cards, crayons, and an observation page.
Slow down and look again. People can be alike and different, and both are wonderful.
Day 3
Read, Write, Draw, and Explain
Help the child create a self-portrait, add their name, and complete the ideas “I am… I like… I can…” through drawing, dictation, tracing, or writing.
Materials and teaching note
Materials: Mirror, self-portrait page, crayons, pencil, and name card.
Adult scribing and invented spelling are developmentally appropriate. Ask the child to explain the details.
Day 4
Math in the Project
Count letters in the child’s name, sort favorites into categories, compare small groups, and use words such as more, fewer, and same.
Materials and teaching note
Materials: Name card, counters, favorite-things objects or pictures, paper, and crayons.
Use real objects children can touch and move. Ask “How do you know?”
Day 5
Create, Reflect, and Share
Begin the “My World” project with an All About Me page. Let the child choose strong work, add one detail, and practice a short presentation.
Materials and teaching note
Materials: Portfolio pieces from Days 1–4, paper, crayons, glue, and the project folder.
Celebrate effort and growth. A clear oral explanation or dictated reflection can be excellent evidence.
